Hello!

My name is Justin Markert, and I am guessing you are here because you want to know a bit about me, huh? Well, I am about to become a college graduate, and as much as that is going to make my parents ecstatic, it also means that the next chapter in my life is about to begin. However, before I tell you about where I am headed, I would like to share with you where I have come from.

WHERE I'VE COME FROM

In third grade, I was seated at a table, and my mom was on my right. On the other side of the table were the principal, members of the board, and my teachers. They told my mom that I had dyslexia and that I was never going to be able to read; they told her how I would always have to have a computer read to me for the rest of my life. See, I did not like that ultimatum, and ever since that day there has been a fire burning inside of me never to give up.

I remember when I was a kid and my school made the argument that I lacked intelligence and there was nothing they could do for me. So, they gave me an IQ test, and I scored above average, with no lunch that day I mind you because they forgot to give it to me. Later down the line, I passed their tests with flying colors; my results showed that I was above my classmates. So they pushed for me to be removed from special education. What my school district failed to realize was that they would give me the same test every year, so I memorized the answers. Through this long back-and-forth game, there was always one person who was my cheerleader, one person who fought for me every single day until I graduated; that fantastic woman was my mother, and I owe her everything.

WHO AM I NOW

However, enough about my childhood, you are probably wondering who I am now. Well, I love to travel, and I have been very fortunate over the years to have traveled many places around the world already. I love to ski, and I love coming home to my golden retrievers. I have become self-aware enough to know that I am caring in nature and my first instinct is always to help. However, most importantly, my family is everything to me; my world revolves around them.

Ever since an early age I have been obsessed with building and creating, designing and tinkering. You can always find me with a camera in one hand, a sketchbook in the other, and a computer somewhere nearby. I am fortunate enough to be living the in the era of social media. Social media interests me so much to the point where I switched my focus of my major and wrote an extensive white paper on it. I am lucky because I have found an industry where my passions overlap with my aspirations.

WHERE AM I GOING

Come spring I am graduating with a Digital Media and Design degree from the University of Connecticut. My goal is to work at one of the top agencies in the United States. Life is a journey, and I intend to enjoy every second of it. I cannot wait to see what my future holds; who knows, maybe in a few years, I will need a new goal.

Thanks for stopping by, have an awesome day!

Cheers,
Justin Markert
